iPad 3 rumors spread

Rumors are flying about the next-generation iPad (courtesy of apple.com)

Big news for Apple fans.

The website Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is ramping up for a March released of its next-generation iPad, or “iPad 3.” According to unnamed sources, the next generation iPad will feature an impressive quad-core processor, LTE compatibility and a new high-definition screen.

The LTE — or long-term evolution — service would allow the iPad to access wireless data networks with speeds much faster than the current 3G protocol. And with Verizon and AT&T rolling out LTE service in some areas, that could mean much faster downloads and streaming for iPad users.

The new screen, according to the source, would be of such a high-resolution that it would have more pixels than some current high-definition TVs and have pixels small enough that images would “look like printed material,” he said. It sounds like Retina Display — the technology currently being used in the high-resolution iPhone 4 and 4S screens — may be coming to the iPad 3.

According to Bloomberg, production of the new iPad began at the start of this month at Foxconn, Apple’s Chinese manufacturing partner. No specific date was given on when the iPad 3 would be released or even announced. The source just said it would go on sale sometime in March.

This could also mean good news for bargain hunters, as Apple will also likely drop prices on the earlier generation iPads once the new versions hit the market.

So, if the rumors are true, you can expect to get your hands on some new and improved, turbo-charged iPads pretty soon.
